Build on the free address
Every site gets a name at mightybuilder.site the moment it is created. It is a proper address over HTTPS — you can send it to a client, and search engines can index it — rather than a preview link that expires.
Add your domain
Type it into the Domain tab and point your registrar’s DNS at the addresses shown. Both the bare name and the www version, if you want both. Domains apply immediately rather than waiting for Publish, because a domain is not a setting.
Stop thinking about it
The padlock appears the first time somebody visits the name, and it is kept there for you from then on. There is no expiry date to note, and no morning where it has quietly gone.

Sell you the padlock
HTTPS is not a feature. Browsers mark a site without it as unsafe, so an unencrypted site is a broken one — charging to fix that is charging you not to be punished. It costs us nothing to switch on, and it never has.
Put your domain behind a tier
Withholding a custom domain is how a free plan is made unusable rather than merely small. If you have paid us anything at all, you can put your own name on it — and the free address you started on goes on working afterwards.
Hold the name itself
We do not sell domains, so we never end up owning the one thing that lets you leave. Buy it at a registrar of your choosing and it stays yours whatever you think of us in three years.

Small things that turn out to matter.
One real address
Anything that is not your chosen address forwards to it immediately. example.com and www.example.com end up as one site rather than two — which is the difference between one page ranking properly and two pages half-ranking.
A name nobody else can take
The free subdomain is checked as you type, and a name already in use is refused there and then rather than at the end of a form. A handful of names are reserved — ones we run something on, and ones we could not take back off a paying customer later.
Your site is not on our domain
Sites built here are kept completely separate from the dashboard you log into — different domain, different everything. That is a deliberate safety line, not tidiness: it means nothing running on anybody’s website can get near anybody’s account.
It stays up when we are busy
A published page is a static file served at the edge, so the thing that keeps your site online is not the thing that runs the dashboard. Deploys, releases and dashboard problems do not reach it.
Questions about domains
Does a custom domain cost extra?
No. It is on every account, including one funded entirely by a one-off pack. Charging for a custom domain, or for HTTPS, is a way of making the cheapest plan unusable so that you leave it — we would rather the cheapest plan simply be smaller.
Do I have to buy the domain from you?
No, and you cannot. Buy it wherever you like and point it here. Owning the domain at your own registrar is the thing that makes leaving possible, and a builder that also sells you the name has quietly taken that away.
What about the padlock in the address bar?
It appears on its own the first time somebody visits, and it stays there for as long as the domain points here. There is nothing to buy, upload, configure or diarise.
Can I have both example.com and www.example.com?
Yes. Both work, one is the real one, and the other permanently forwards to it — so search engines see one site rather than two copies competing with each other, which is the most common way a small site halves its own ranking.
What do I get before I have a domain?
A real address on mightybuilder.site, over HTTPS, that works properly and is indexable. It is not a preview link or a trial URL — it is your site, live, and it stays working after you attach your own name.
How long does a domain change take?
The change on our side is immediate — domains are not part of the draft-and-publish cycle, because a domain is not a setting, it is where the site answers. After that it is DNS propagation, which is between you and your registrar and usually minutes.
